What Future Faking Really Is — and Why It’s Not Always a Red Flag
There’s a new dating term out there: Future Faking
The TokTokers are all going on about how guys are dating, making fake future promises, then they disappear. New term — old playbook.

Future Faking is actually good news.
Once you understand what’s actually going on, it stops being maddening and starts being… kinda sweet.
Here’s what’s happening: when a guy is dating you and he really likes you, he starts imagining you in his world. He does it because he’s into you and because he’s testing the fit. Like: “Do you ski? My family has a cabin in Tahoe — we’re up there all winter.”
Or, “Wait, you’re a writer? We should totally hole up somewhere and get our books done this summer.”
To him, that’s just excitement and “wow, we fit!”.
To you, it sounds like plans, or even a promise. I mean, there’s a timeline in there! So you mentally clear your weekends from November to February. You’re ready for Friday night Tahoe traffic and Patagonia fleeces.
Then — two weeks later — he’s gone.
And yeah, it sucks.
