I’m sorry to have to write this letter…

Dear red states,

We need to talk.

Do you see we don’t have much in common anymore?

It’s not you, it’s me.

We were never really a good match, to begin with. I knew it and if you’re honest with yourself, you probably knew it too.

It’s obvious we’re coming from two totally different places and we’ll never see eye to eye.

I am afraid we’ve lost respect for each other, Kentucky, and you know a relationship can’t thrive without respect.

For the last several years, I’ve just been going through the motions, and I know that’s not fair to anyone. If you need to blame someone, blame me.

I mean maybe you can say “opposites attract” has kept us together this long. I really don’t know anymore.

But it’s nobody’s fault here.

We’re just two different people.

And we’re not a good fit for each other.

It’s time we break up and move on.

You’ll always be in my… um…

I’ll never forget you.

California

p.s. I’m taking the east coast, the pacific northwest, and the rest of the blue states with me. Don’t worry, I won’t ask for any support, New York and I have got this.
